How to use ClawEar, and how to reach us

ClawEar is a voice keyboard: tap the mic in any app, speak, and get clean text ready to send.

Getting started

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings › General › Keyboard › Keyboards › Add New Keyboard, add ClawEar, and turn on Allow Full Access.
  2. Open the ClawEar app, tap Start session, agree to the data use notice, and allow microphone access.
  3. In any app with a text field, switch to the ClawEar keyboard with the globe key, tap the mic, speak, and tap ✓ when you're done.

Using ClawEar

Why do I have to start a voice session in the app?

iOS doesn't allow keyboards to use the microphone, so the app records. Start a voice session once (up to 60 minutes) and you can tap the mic on the keyboard and talk without switching back. On standby, iOS keeps the microphone muted; it records only when you tap the mic.

Why does the keyboard need Full Access?

The keyboard uses it to exchange recording status and cleaned-up text with the app. The keyboard itself makes no network connections and never transmits what you type. See the Privacy Policy.

Which languages can I speak? Can it translate?

English and Chinese. Choose one in Settings › Recognition & cleanup › Speech language. To have what you say come out in another language, choose it in Settings › Output › Translate into, then turn on Translate on the keyboard.

What is hands-free mode?

For when your hands are busy: pause when you're done and ClawEar stops, types the text in, and sends it in fields with a Send key. Adjust Pause before stopping and Mic sensitivity in Settings › Hands-free.

How does photo input work?

Choose Photo in the keyboard's mode bar and tap Open camera to switch to the app. Take photos of what you want to reference (up to 5, or pick from your library), then say what to do with them, like "send him the account number." The text comes back to the keyboard; check it and tap Insert, or edit it by voice first.

A name keeps getting misheard. What can I do?

Add it to your Dictionary so recognition favors it. If it's always misheard the same way, add a replacement.

Plans and credits

What's the difference between ClawEar Cloud, On-device, and your own API key?

Choose in Settings › Recognition & cleanup:

What happens when I run out of credits?

ClawEar switches to On-device automatically, at no extra charge. Credits reset every period; you can see what's left and when it resets in Settings › Plan & usage.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Go to Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions on your iPhone, or Settings › Plan & usage › Manage Subscription in the app. Cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends to avoid renewal; you can keep using Pro until it expires.

How do I request a refund?

Apple handles payment, so refunds are requested from Apple: sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com and choose the subscription. Apple may ask us how the subscription was used (never including any content); see the Privacy Policy.

I got a new phone, or want to use Pro on another device

Open the app on the new device with the same Apple Account, go to Settings › Plan & usage, and tap Restore Purchases. A subscription works on up to 5 devices. If all 5 are in use, the app lists them so you can remove one and use this device instead.

Troubleshooting

Tapping the mic does nothing, or the text isn't inserted

The app asks for Speech Recognition access

When ClawEar Cloud isn't available (not connected yet, out of credits, or paused), recognition runs on your device instead, which needs speech recognition permission. Turn on Speech Recognition in iPhone Settings › ClawEar, and it'll pick up when you're back in the app.
