ClawEar (app and keyboard) · Last updated: October 1, 2026
This policy explains how ClawEar (the app and its keyboard, "the App") handles your data on your iPhone or iPad ("your device") and when it passes through our servers.
Summary
Audio is recorded only when you tap the mic. While a voice session is on standby, iOS keeps the microphone muted. Recordings are deleted as soon as they're processed.
ClawEar Cloud is used by default: recordings, text, and photos pass through our servers to an AI provider for processing. Our servers only relay them; we never store what you say, type, or photograph.
If you'd rather not use our servers, switch to On-device (everything stays on your device) or use your own API key (content goes straight to the provider you choose).
There's no account to create. We don't collect your name, email, phone number, or payment details. To track credits and subscriptions, we keep only a random device code generated by the App, your subscription status, and usage records.
The App contains no advertising, analytics, or crash-reporting SDKs. History is off by default; if you turn it on, it stays on your device.
1. Three ways to process
In the App, go to Settings › Recognition & cleanup to choose where recordings and text are processed:
ClawEar Cloud (default): the recording and the text needed for cleanup are sent to our servers, which pass them to an AI provider for recognition and cleanup and return the result to your device. This uses credits. If you're out of credits, the cloud is paused, or the connection fails, that request is processed on your device instead.
On-device: recognition and cleanup happen entirely on your device, and recordings and text never leave it. Speech recognition is required to run on device, so audio isn't sent to Apple's servers; cleanup is handled by Apple Intelligence on your device.
Your own API key: with an API key you got from an AI provider yourself, recordings and text go directly from your device to that provider, never through our servers, and we can't see them.
2. Voice input and the microphone
iOS doesn't allow keyboards to use the microphone, so the ClawEar app records and the keyboard only starts, stops, and inserts the result.
Consent first: before first use, the App explains how audio and text are handled, and starts only after you agree and allow microphone access. If that notice changes materially, you'll be asked to agree again.
Recording only when you tap: once you start a voice session, the app stands by in the background with the microphone muted by iOS, so it receives no audio. It records only when you tap the mic on the keyboard or in the app.
Time limits: a voice session lasts at most 60 minutes (you choose 5, 15, 30, or 60) and ends when time is up or when you end it. A single recording is limited to 5 minutes.
No recordings kept: audio files exist on your device only while being processed and are deleted right after.
Read aloud: uses the speech synthesis built into iOS, on device.
3. What's sent when you use ClawEar Cloud
Each time you tap the mic with ClawEar Cloud, the App sends:
the recording;
a short piece of the text before the cursor in the text field (up to about 300 characters when you speak Chinese, or 900 when you speak English) so the result fits what you've already written, and, when you edit by voice, the text being edited (your selection, or the whole field if nothing is selected);
the type of text field (for example, whether the Return key says Send), to understand the context. The keyboard can't see, and never sends, which app you're typing in;
your cleanup settings: tone, speech language, translation target, Dictionary words, and custom instructions.
Our servers hold this content only in memory while passing it to the AI provider and discard it when processing is done; it isn't written to a database or to logs, and request logging in the relay service is turned off. The AI provider handles the content under its API data policy and doesn't use it to train models (we haven't opted in to sharing data with the provider):
Speech recognition: the provider doesn't keep recordings or transcripts.
Text cleanup and photos: we ask the provider not to store results. To detect abuse and misuse, the provider keeps the text sent for cleanup (including the transcript) and photos for up to 30 days and then deletes them, unless the law requires otherwise. Photos also go through the provider's safety checks, and flagged ones may be kept for human review.
The result you see in the App is the only copy. If you want to report a quality problem, copy the entry from History in the App and send it to us.
4. Photo input and the camera
With photo input, the App uses the camera to capture what you want to reference (up to 5 photos), or you can pick photos from your library (the App only reads the ones you pick). Photos are resized, stripped of location and other metadata, and the text in them is recognized on your device.
Photos are processed together with what you say, and they go to the same place described in section 1: through our servers to a provider with ClawEar Cloud (never stored), on your device with On-device, or straight to the provider with your own API key.
With ClawEar Cloud, so that edits within the same task aren't charged twice, our servers keep a hash of each photo (which can't be turned back into the photo) for 24 hours.
Photos are kept only in the App's temporary storage and never saved to History. They're deleted when you cancel, after 10 minutes of inactivity, or the next time you open the App.
5. Devices, credits, and subscriptions
Device code
The App has no accounts. The first time you use ClawEar Cloud, the App generates a random device code and secret (not a hardware serial number or advertising identifier), stores them in the iOS Keychain, and registers them with our servers. Registration sends the device code, the secret (our servers store only a hash of it), your device model, and your iOS and App versions. The device code is then used to track credits each time you use ClawEar Cloud. It lives only in this device's Keychain: it stays if you delete and reinstall the App, and it isn't carried over when you restore a backup to a new device.
You'll find your support code in Settings › Plan & usage. Include it when you contact us so we can find your device or subscription.
Free credits and Apple DeviceCheck
On the Free plan, each device gets free credits every month. To prevent the same device from claiming them twice, we use Apple's DeviceCheck service: Apple stores two bits of state and the month they were last updated for this device. This contains no personal information and can't be used to identify you.
Subscriptions
Payment is handled by Apple. We never receive your name, email, Apple Account, or payment details.
After you buy or restore a purchase, the App sends the transaction information signed by Apple to our servers to confirm your subscription: transaction ID, plan, purchase and expiration dates, whether it's a trial, whether it auto-renews, and the App Store country or region. Your device code is attached to the purchase so that Apple's notifications about your subscription can be matched to your device.
Apple notifies our servers about subscription changes such as renewals, expirations, and refunds.
A subscription can be used on up to 5 devices. We record which devices use it (model and last used time) so you can choose one to remove when the limit is reached.
Usage information for refunds: when you ask Apple for a refund, Apple may ask us how the subscription was used. Once you've agreed to this in the data use notice, we report the share of that subscription's credits used, whether the service was delivered normally, and whether a free trial was offered. It never includes anything you said or wrote. If you'd rather we didn't, turn off Share usage for refunds in the App under Settings › Plan & usage, or email us and we'll turn it off for you. Your latest choice on any device applies to the whole subscription.
Trial reminder: when you start a free trial, the App asks for permission to send notifications and reminds you 2 days before the trial ends. This is a local notification scheduled on your device and doesn't go through our servers.
6. What our servers keep
We keep only the records needed to run the service, track credits, and handle subscriptions. None of them contain recordings, photos, or text:
Data
Kept for
Recordings, transcripts, cleaned-up text, photos
Not stored
A hash of the connecting IP address (to prevent abuse and limit request rates; IP addresses aren't logged)
About 2 hours
Photo hashes (to avoid charging twice)
24 hours
Per-request usage records: time, type (voice or photo), recording length or number of photos, credits used, model used, processing cost, error code
90 days
Daily usage totals: credits, requests, errors
2 years
Device records: device code, model, iOS and App versions, registration and last used times, whether this month's free credits were claimed, when you agreed to refund usage reporting
2 years after last use
Subscription records: transaction information, subscription status, devices using it, Apple's notifications, refunds and usage reports
2 years after the subscription ends or is refunded
Actions we take on a device or subscription (for example, adding compensation credits or suspending it) are recorded in an operations log for auditing.
Our servers run on a cloud hosting service, and data may be processed by us and by AI providers in countries or regions outside Taiwan (for example, the United States).
7. Data that stays on your device
The following is stored on your device (in the App Group space shared by the app and the keyboard, or in the iOS Keychain) and is never uploaded to us. (With ClawEar Cloud, Dictionary words and custom instructions are sent with each request as described in section 3, but never stored.)
Settings: tone, cleanup options, speech language, translation target, hands-free, voice session length, and so on.
Dictionary: words and replacements you add, and words to review.
Custom instructions you write for cleanup.
History (off by default): cleaned-up text and raw transcripts, deleted automatically after the period you choose (3, 7, or 30 days).
Your own API keys: stored only in the iOS Keychain and used only to connect to the provider you chose.
Usage estimates for your own API keys (count, seconds, and estimated cost), shown only in the App.
The most recent credit status from our servers (percentage left and reset time), so the keyboard can show hints.
Temporary data exchanged between the keyboard and the app: recording status, the most recent result (it expires after 10 minutes and is replaced by the next voice input), and the current text field context (the text before the cursor and whether text is selected).
When you delete the App, all of this is removed except the device code (see section 5) and your API keys in the Keychain.
8. Your own API keys and third-party services
With your own API key, content you send is handled by that provider under its terms and privacy policy, and the provider bills you directly. We recommend reading the provider's privacy policy before setting it up.
Content goes directly from your device to the provider, never through our servers, and doesn't use credits.
If you clear a key, whatever used it switches back to ClawEar Cloud or On-device.
9. Full Access
iOS requires third-party keyboards to have Full Access to share data with their app. The ClawEar keyboard uses it to:
exchange recording status and cleaned-up text with the app;
read your settings, Dictionary, and credit status from the app;
open the app to start a voice session, take photos, edit your Dictionary, or upgrade your plan.
The keyboard itself makes no network connections and never transmits what you type. Text field content is used only when you tap the mic, as described in section 3.
10. Analytics and crash reports
The App contains no third-party advertising, analytics, or crash-reporting SDKs, and doesn't track you, in the App or across other apps and websites. If you choose to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple provides us aggregated statistics under its own policy, which never include what you say or type.
11. Retention and deletion
Recordings are deleted right after processing. Photos are deleted when you cancel, after 10 minutes of inactivity, or the next time you open the App.
History is deleted automatically after the period you choose, and you can clear it any time in Settings › History › Clear all history. Turning off Save history also deletes existing entries.
Records on our servers are deleted automatically on the schedule in section 6.
To have us delete records on our servers sooner, email service@dimanyen.com with your support code:
A device support code (starting with D-): we delete all records for that device, including the device record, usage records, daily totals, and free credits.
A subscription support code (starting with P-): we delete the subscription's usage records and daily totals, plus the records of the devices currently using it. The subscription, its credits, and Apple transaction records are needed to handle refunds and billing, so they're kept until the period in section 6 ends.
If you keep using ClawEar Cloud afterward, the App registers again automatically, and this month's free credits may not be granted again. Usage information for deleted devices is no longer provided when you request a refund.
Content sent to a third-party provider with your own API key is retained under that provider's policy.
12. Your choices and rights
Switch to On-device in Settings › Recognition & cleanup, and your content never leaves your device.
Turn off microphone, speech recognition, camera, or notification access, or the keyboard's Full Access, any time in iOS Settings.
End a voice session any time from the App's home screen.
Turn off Share usage for refunds in Settings › Plan & usage, and no usage information is provided to Apple when you request a refund.
You can ask us to access, correct, or delete your data, get a copy of it, or stop processing it. Email us with your support code and we'll reply within the period required by law (15 days for access and copies, 30 days for other requests).
13. Children's privacy
The App doesn't knowingly collect personal information from children and doesn't collect information that directly identifies anyone.
14. Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date above. Material changes to how your data is handled will be explained in the App, and you'll be asked to agree again.
